Zambia Unity Day is a cultural holiday celebrated on July 4th to honor the country’s amazing cultural diversity while also uniting the people as one nation. The holiday aims to foster solidarity between the various ethnolinguistic groups and maintain the spirit of national unity. Zambia is home to over 70 ethnic groups, and the purpose of Unity Day is to foster national unity among them. There is no dominant ethnic group in Zambia; however, nine ethnic groups have over one million members. Celebrating Zambia Unity Day is a way to recognize and appreciate the country’s cultural diversity and promote unity among its people.
