World Tuna Day was created by the UN in 2016 to promote sustainable fishing practices and protect tuna populations. Indonesian traditional fisherman Umar Papala’s small-scale tuna fishery was the first in Indonesia to hold Fairtrade and MSC, two certifications for sustainable fishing methods.
