Virgin of Los Angeles Day
Virgin of Los Angeles Day is a significant cultural holiday celebrated annually on August 2nd in Costa Rica. It is also known as Virgen de Los Angeles Day and celebrates the country’s patron saint, the Virgen de los Angeles, also known as La Negrita. The holiday has a rich history, with the Virgin being declared Costa Rica’s patron saint in 1824. The Virgen de los Angeles is now housed in the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles in Cartago, where pilgrims from all over the country walk 22 km to visit her on the anniversary of her miraculous discovery.
