Virgin Islands Day
Virgin Islands Day is a public holiday celebrated on July 1st in the British Virgin Islands. This holiday was previously known as Territory Day, until 2021. The holiday has been celebrated since the mid-1950s. The most important holiday in the Territory is the August festival, which is celebrated on the three days from (and including) the first Monday in August to commemorate the abolition of slavery in the British Virgin Islands. The festival features colorful mocko jumbies, calypso musicians, and a lively parade. On Virgin Islands Day, the people of the British Virgin Islands celebrate their culture and heritage with music, food, and dance.
