UN Russian Language Day

Created by UNESCO in 2010 to celebrate the Russian language and promote its equal use within the UN to the UN’s other five official working languages, namely Spanish, French, English, Chinese and Arabic. The day was chosen to coincide with Russian literary figure Alexandr Pushkin’s birthday. It is celebrated with cultural events, including literary readings, musical concerts, art exhibitions, lectures and theatrical productions.
