St Martin’s Day
St Martin’s Day is the funeral day of Saint Martin of Tours. Saint Martin was a Roman soldier who was baptised and became a bishop in a French town. He is regarded as a noble man who often performed saintly acts. He is known for cutting his cloak in half to share with a beggar during a snowstorm. A feast is traditionally observed on this day, butchering fattened cattle, geese and other livestock.
