Spirit day is an annual LGBTQ awareness day in response to bullying-related suicides amongt the LGBTQ community. Started in 2010, by Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan, and is promoted by GLAAD. Individuals wear the colour purple as a sign of support for the LGBTQ community, as well as honouring those in the community who lost their lives to suicide.
