Songkran (Thai New Year)

Songkran, or Thai New Year, is a national holiday in Thailand – it marks the beginning of the New Year, and is a holiday period extending from the 13th to the 15th of April. It is celebrated with large street parties featuring loud music and a giant, friendly water fight. The date is said to have its origins in a Hindu festival.
