Running of the Bulls begins (Spain)

La Fiesta de San Fermin runs from the 6 July through to the 14 July. Each morning, six bulls are unleashed onto the streets on 7 July. Those who are brave enough (on average, 2,000 people each year) run in front of the bulls hoping not to get caught. The festival ends with the singing of ‘Pobrede Mi’ (poor me) by candlelight through the streets of Pamplona, Spain. The celebration has its origin in medieval times and commemorates Saint Fermin, said to have died while being dragged through the streets of Pamplona, chased by bulls. Many other events take place across the week-long festival, which is the most internationally renowned festival in Spain, attracting more than 1 million visitors most years.
