Romanian Language Day

Romanian Language Day is celebrated every year on August 31st in Romania and Moldova. The holiday was first proposed in 2011, when MPs of the Romanian Parliament from all political parties submitted a request to the Senate to make 31 August the “Romanian Language Day”. The holiday celebrates the Romanian language, which is a Romance language and part of the same linguistic family as the French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish languages. Organizations and associations of Romanians in Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, and Ukraine also celebrate this holiday. Cultural and educational events are held to honor the language and its role in Romanian culture.
