15 August

Republic of Korea Liberation Day (Korea)

This holiday commemorates the victory over Japan day, when the US and its allies liberated Korea from 35 years of rule by Japan. It is celebrated in both North and South Korea. In South Korea there are numerous events including an official ceremony attended by the President. The flags that hang between the Olympic stadium and the Olympic Park are replaced with Korean flags. Buildings and homes show their patriotism by hanging the Korean flag.
