Portugal Republic Day

Portugal Republic Day, also known as Implantation of the Republic Day, is celebrated on October 5th every year. This day commemorates the overthrow of the monarchy in 1910 and the establishment of a republic. It is a public holiday with schools, state offices, and some restaurants being closed. The national flag, adopted during the First Portuguese Republic, includes an ancient astronomical device (the armillary sphere) used for maritime navigation and represents Portugal’s role in global exploration. Many cultural symbols of national identity focus on the Age of Discovery and an imagined community that extends beyond the political frontiers of the nation.
