Amavasya, referring to the new moon day, holds great significance in Hindu religion and spirituality. January 11 is the first Amavasya of 2024, as observed in the Hindu calendar – it occurs in the Hindu month of Paush.

On this day, it is considered auspicious to donate to the poor or needy to please the Hindu Gods. It is also considered good to bathe in the river on Paush Amavasya.
