Oued Ed-Dahab Day
Oued Ed-Dahab Day, also known as Allegiance Day, is a national holiday celebrated in Morocco every year on August 14th. This day commemorates the return of the Oued Ed-Dahab region to Morocco from Mauritania in 1979. The region of Oued Ed-Dahab is located in the southern part of Morocco and is the most southerly of Morocco’s 16 provinces. On August 14th, 1979, 360 tribal leaders and clerics from Oued Ed-Dahab visited the capital of Morocco, Rabat, to give their oath of allegiance to the late King Hassan II. This oath was seen as a green light for Morocco to annex the region on behalf of the nation. The holiday celebrates the cultural heritage and history of Morocco, and the importance of the region of Oued Ed-Dahab to the country.
