Obon begins (Japan)

This is the beginning of a three-day festival to honour the spirits of one’s ancestors. A traditional dance called Bon Odori is performed. It is a time to return to ancestral family places, and visit/clean the graves of their ancestors. This has been celebrated for over 500 years.
