Nyepi (Balinese New Year)
Also known as Nyepi or Day of Silence, is an important and significant day that symbolises the beginning of a new year. Also known as the Day of Silence, because the island of Bali turns off all lights and sounds, with traffic and all work and activity are suspended for qa day. Complete silence descends on the island. The evening before, however, is celebrated with vibrant paper mache puppets called Ogoh-Ogoh parading down the streets, who are then burnt to banish evil and disease from the island.
