Navpatrika Puja (in Durga Puja)
Navpatrika, also known as Maha Saptami, is the first day of Durga Puja and involves an important Hindu ritual that invokes Goddess Durga. The day is celebrated in Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Tripura, and Manipur, particularly in farmland, as the ritual is said to give a good yield. In Navpatrika Puja, a bunch is made by mixing the leaves of nine plants: Turmeric, Barley, Bel Leaves, Pomegranate, Ashok, Arum, Banan, Kachavi, and Paddy. The nine leaves symbolise the nine forms of Maa Durga. The leaves are worshipped, and bathed in holy water, which is called Mahasnan.
