Native American Heritage Month begins (USA)

Native American Heritage Month was designated by the United States Congress in 1990, replacing the previous Native American Awareness Week. The month is a time to honour and celebrate the many (574 are federally recognised) diverse cultures, heritages and histories of Native Americans, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians. It includes a range of events, including ceremonies, performances, talks, workshops, rallies, readings, exhibitions, Rock Your Mocs, a National Day of Mourning and more.
