National Youth Day (South Africa)

Youth Day is a public holiday in South Africa. It commemorates the Soweto youth uprising of 16 June 1976, which began against a language policy of the apartheid government and spread countrywide and profoundly changed the socio-political landscape in South Africa. The apartheid government killed hundreds of young people during the uprising.
