National Redemption Day (Liberia)
An annual national public holiday in the Republic of Liberia that marks the anniversary of the coup d’état led by Samuel Doe (1951–1990) on this day in 1980 and establishment of Liberia’s Second Republic. Doe was the first non-Americo-Liberian leader of Liberia and served as the nation’s 21st president from 1980 to 1990, when he was assassinated.
