    Mother’s Day (Georgia)

A national public holiday in Georgia to celebrate the relationship between a mother and her children. Georgia’s first President, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, established the holiday in 1991. It is a tradition that on this day mothers throughout the country are given spring flowers, mostly violets, sweets and other presents by the rest of the family. The intention of the holiday was initially to replace International Women’s Day, however, Georgia now also celebrates International Women’s Day on 8 March with the international community.
