Maroons Day
According to age-old tradition in Nepal, on this day, the royal kalash (pots) are filled with water, sugarcane, banana stalks and wheatgrass seeds. Nepal’s army is designated along with Brahmans to carry out the auspicious ritual of conveying these items under a red velvet umbrella in small chariots. Government officials, especially the head of the nation, also join this Fulpati parade, initiating the Dashain festivities. Similar rituals are also carried out in homes of the Nepalis. This tradition is called ‘bringing home the Fulpati’.
