Makar Sankranti

Aka Makara, Uttarayan, Maghi, Sankranti, Mokor Sonkranti (West Bengal), Til Sakraait (Mithila), Maghe Sankranti (Nepal), in the Hindu Calendar, this day celebrates the sun’s movement northwards and is dedicated to Surya (the Sun god). Makar Sankranti is set by the solar cycle and corresponds to the exact time astronomical event of the Sun entering Capricorn

It is a Hind holy day to worship Lord Surya. Many multi-day Hindu festivals take place at this time. Devotees also bathe in holy rivers or lakes to thank the sun and absolve past sins.
