Karva Chauth

Karva Chauth is a one-day festival celebrated annually by married Hindu women in Northern and Western India. The women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. It is suspected that Karva Chauth derives from a military campaign where men would leave their wives and children at home to go off to war. Their wives would often wish for their safe return by fasting and praying.
