International Worker’s Day
Also known as May Day and Labour or Labor Day, International Workers Day originated in the late 1800s in the United States and commemorates the Haymarket affair of 4 May 1886 and was initiated by labor unions and socialist organisations to advocate for workers’ rights, fair wages, and better working conditions. This day is observed in most countries worldwide (most commemorating it on 1 May) and it is a national public holiday in more than 80 countries. On this day, people globally unite to commemorate historic struggles and achievements and advocate for workers’ rights and better working conditions.
