The International University Sports Federation (FISU) suggested to UNESCO an internationally recognised day dedicated to university sports – which was endorsed and ratified in 2015. This day coincides in most countries around the world with the beginning of the academic year. The dedication of this date incorporates 167 university sport federations, representing many higher education institutions, and aims to draw attention to the role university sports play in social cohesion on the international stage.
