International Day of the World’s Indigenous People
Over 476 million Indigenous people live in 90 countries across the world. They possess a diverse range of cultures, languages, traditions, and knowledge systems. Indigenous people hold a special relationship with the land they originate from and live on. While some are self-governing, there are still many who fall under the authority of governments who have control over their territories, resources, and lands. This is a day to raise awareness of Indigenous people’s struggles and to celebrate their resilience.
