The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education, highlighting the role of education in promoting peace and development. The day celebrates unity and solidarity through education and encourages delivery of inclusive and equitable quality of education to students of all ages and backgrounds.

The fifth International Day of Education, celebrated on 24 January 2024 holds the theme “ to invest in people, prioritize education ”. UNESCO is dedicating this year’s International Day to girls and women in Afghanistan who have been deprived of right to education.
