International Day of Cooperatives
Established by the UN in 1993, the purpose of this day is to encourage governments to consider fully the potential of cooperatives to contribute to the solution of economic, social and environmental problems in formulating national development strategies, and to encourage government agencies, national organisations representing cooperatives and other organisations to maintain and increase their support to the international cooperative movement. The apex body for cooperatives worldwide is the International Cooperative Alliance, which represents 1 billion members.
