International Day against Nuclear Tests

On December 2nd, 2009, the United Nations General Assembly declared this day as the International Day against Nuclear Tests. It calls for increased awareness of the effects of nuclear testing. On the day there are many conferences, exhibits, competitions, lectures, and broadcasts. Prior to this day, a treaty called the ‘Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty’ was adopted by the United Nations. To date, 185 countries have signed the treaty, with 170 of those ratifying it.
