International Asteroid Day

Established in 2014 by Dr Brian May of the rock group Queen, Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart, filmmaker Grig Richters and B612 Foundation President Danica Remy, this day aims to educate the public about the opportunities and challenges surrounding asteroids, and the emerging space economy. The day marks the date of the largest recorded asteroid impact on Earth, the Siberia Tunguska event of 1908. It has been a UN sanctioned day since 2016.
