Independence Day (Malta)

Maltese Independence Day celebrates Malta’s independence from British Colonial Rule in 1964. Throughout its existence, the island of Malta had a long and complex history – resulting in rule from a string of foreign powers. Malta attained independence, and joined the Commonwealth of Nations, declaring itself a republic a decade later. The day is celebrated with a public address, and public celebrations in community spaces.
