Independence Day (Latvia)
This day commemorates the declaration of independence of the Republic of Latvia from German and Russian occupation in 1918, after the end of World War I. the new nation was recognised by Soviet Russia and Germany in 1920. In Latvia, this day is a public holiday where people often attend parades, concerts, torchlight processions and firework displays.
