This is Kyrgyzstan’s main national holiday. It commemorates Kyrgyzstan’s Declaration of Independence in 1991. A mass cultural event is held in Al-Too Square, attended by thousands including many dignitaries. Every 5 years there is a large military parade held in the square. Other smaller parades are held throughout the country. There are sporting and equestrian events held to celebrate the day.
