This holiday celebrates Jamaica’s independence from the United Kingdom in 1962. On that day, the Union Jack was ceremonially lowered and replaced by the Jamaican flag throughout the country. The Jamaica Festival festivities include a Grand Parade, traditional music and the World Reggae Dance Final as well as other activities.
