Independence Day (Cote d’Ivoire)

This is a public holiday that commemorates Cote d’Ivoire’s independence from France in 1960. Around the country there are cultural activities and parties featuring the local wine, Bangui and aloko (fried ripe bananas). Within the capital city there are military parades and processions.
