Harela

Harela is a Hindu festival celebrated annually on July 16 in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. This festival marks the beginning of the rainy season or monsoon and is a celebration of peace, prosperity, greenery, and environmental conservation. During this festival, saplings are planted by various societies, associations, and the people belonging to the Kumaon community. The festival revolves around agriculture where women sow seeds in the soil and by the end of the festival, they reap the harvest which is called harela. Traditional dance forms like Chhalaria are performed during the festival. Harela is a unique festival that celebrates nature, agriculture, and the environment.
