Ganesh Chaturthi

This is a Hindu festival that runs for ten days. It celebrates the arrival of Lord Ganesh to the earth from Mount Kailash. The festival is marked by clay statues of Ganesh being placed in homes and in public. On the tenth day the statues are carried to the river or sea where they dissolve, which represents Ganesh returning to Mount Kailash. Throughout the festival, there are prayers and fasting, offerings are made and plenty of celebrating.
