Epiphany

Aka Three Kings’ Day, this Christian feast day marks the last of the 12 days of Christmas, and is said to commemorate the Three Kings (also known as the Magi) visiting the baby Jesus in Bethlehem. Epiphany customs include singing, blessing of houses, attending Church services – and sometimes, in the northern hemisphere, winter swimming and chalking the door. According to tradition, Christmas decorations are to be removed the evening before, with bad luck following those who fail to do so. Epiphany is a public holiday in many countries, including Åland, Andorra, Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Finland, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Holy See, Italy, Lebanon, Liechtenstein, Poland, Puerto Rico, San Marino, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Uruguay and US Virgin Islands.
