    Double Ninth Festival

Double Ninth Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday, also called Chung Yeung Festival in China and Jungyangjeol in Korea. The day falls on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month in the Chinese calendar. The date is auspicious and referred to as a double yang, an ancient Chinese spiritual concept as nine is a yang number. Celebrations take place by hiking and climbing mountains as well as drinking chrysanthemum liquor and wearing the zhuyu plant, both for their cleansing properties. On this date, it is also customary to visit and pay respects to the graves of ancestors, often to paint and repair inscriptions on their headstones, and lay out offerings like suckling pig and cake.
