Diwali

Diwali, Deepavali or Deepawali, also known as Festival of lights is a five-day celebration, that celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. The festival is observed mainly by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. Candles, lights and lamps are observed during the Hindu lunisolar month Kartik. To celebrate, fireworks, prayers, gifts, feasts and sweets are enjoyed. Goddess Laxmi, the goddess of wealth is worshipped on the 3rd day of Deepawali for prosperity and success at homes and businesses. The last of Deepawali is marked by Bhai tika (in Nepal) or Bhai Doojin (India), where sisters pray for their brother’s long lives and good health with Lord Yamaraj, the god of death and justice.
