Chulalongkorn Day / Piyamararaj Day
Chulalongkorn Day, also known as Piyamararaj Day, is a national holiday in Thailand celebrated annually on October 23rd. The holiday commemorates the life and work of King Chulalongkorn, also known as Rama V, who ruled Thailand for 42 years. King Chulalongkorn is remembered for his modernization of Thailand, including the abolition of slavery and the introduction of Western-style education and technology. On this day, Thai people pay their respects to the king by laying wreaths at his statue and participating in cultural activities.
