Capital City Day (Kazakhstan)

Also called ‘Day of Nur-Sultan’, this is a public holiday in Kazakhstan that commemorates the change of the capital’s location from Almaty to Astana and marks the birthday of Kazakhstan’s first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev (in office from 1990 to 2019). In March 2019 Astana was renamed Nur-Sultan in honour of the former president.
