Bandi Chhor Divas
Bandi Chhor Divas is a Sikh celebration where those devoted to the Sikh faith celebrate Bandi Chhor Divas (meaning ‘Celebration of Freedom’). Sikhism promotes lifestyles avoiding the five thieves. These are kaam (lust), krodh (wrath), lobh (greed), moh (attachment) and ahankar (ego or excessive pride). The day acknowledges the release from prison of the sixth guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Ji who also rescued 52 Hindu kings held captive alongside him.
