Asian Pacific American Heritage Month begins (US)

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month takes place every May in the United States. It’s a time to honour the contributions and cultural heritage of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Throughout the month, there are various activities like cultural festivals, educational programs, art exhibits, community gatherings and public performances. These events showcase the diverse histories, traditions and achievements of these communities. Congress officially established this event in 1992, building upon a week-long celebration that was initiated in 1978 by Representatives Frank Horton and Norman Mineta, and Senators Daniel Inouye and Spark Matsunaga.
