Anniversary of the Islamic Revolution (Iran)
This day celebrates the day Ayatollah Ruholla Khomeini, who founded the Islamic Republic, entered Tehran in 1979 and led a 10-day long victorious uprising. The Iranian revolution was caused by different groups vying for political control, leading to the birth of a theocracy. The anniversary is a political celebration, and also celebrates independence from the then dominance of the US and Soviet Union.
